Based in Williamsville, New York, Tops Markets was a leading food retailer in Western New York.  Founded in 1962, Tops Markets operated supermarkets under the Tops Friendly Markets name and convenience stores under the names Wilson Farms and B-Kwik.  During Freeman Spogli’s investment, Tops Markets constructed new superstores containing conventional supermarkets together with specialty service departments.  Freeman Spogli realized its investment in Tops Market through a sale of the company to Royal Ahold in 1991.
