Based in San Jose, California, Orchard Supply Hardware was a chain of high-volume retail hardware stores.  Founded in 1931, Orchard Supply Hardware targeted the unique “fix-it” segment and offered a broad merchandise selection and high levels of customer service.  In 1993, Orchard Supply Hardware completed an initial public offering (NYSE: ORH).  Freeman Spogli realized its investment in Orchard Supply Hardware through a public market transaction in 1996 and an eventual sale of the company to Sears in 1996.
